NDIS Support Changes 2026: What Perth Participants Need to Know

The NDIS is changing, and 2026 is an important year for participants, families, carers and providers.

Several NDIS changes are being introduced progressively, including changes to support budgets, claiming timeframes and planning processes. The impact can be different for each participant, so it is important to check the latest information that applies to your individual plan.

For the latest official information, visit the NDIS Changes to the NDIS page.

What NDIS Support Budget Changes Started in October 2026?

From 1 October 2026, some NDIS support budgets are being reduced progressively over 12 months.

The changes apply to:

  • Social, Economic and Community Participation
  • Improved Daily Living Skills

From 1 October 2026, reductions will apply to plans that are newly created or reassessed. Renewed plans will be affected from 1 February 2027. However, the impact will vary from person to person, as each NDIS plan is designed around the participant’s individual goals, personal circumstances and support needs.

Will Every Participant Be Affected?

No.

The NDIS has confirmed that the impact of these changes will vary between participants.

Some supports within the affected categories are not included in the budget reductions. These include certain employment supports, disability-related health supports, high-intensity supports, intensive and complex behaviour supports, customised and wearable technology and hearing services.

Importantly, these particular budget reductions do not affect some essential day-to-day supports. Such assistance includes eating, drinking, dressing, toileting, laundry, cleaning, nursing care and medication support.

For the complete list, participants should check the official NDIS information rather than relying on general online advice.

What Should You Do If Your NDIS Plan Is Changing?

If your plan is being reassessed or renewed, take some time to understand your current funding and supports.

1. Review Your NDIS Plan

Check your current budgets, funding periods and supports.

You can use the NDIS Guide to your next plan to understand plan reassessments and what happens when your next plan is created.

2. Review Your Goals

Think about:

  • What support do I currently use?
  • What is working well?
  • What support is important for my independence?
  • Have my circumstances changed?
  • What goals do I want to work towards?

Your supports should be connected to your individual needs and goals.

3. Speak With Your Support Coordinator

If you have a Support Coordinator, discuss your plan and any changes with them.

They may be able to help you understand your supports and explore appropriate options.

4. Talk to Your NDIS Provider

Your provider can discuss the services they deliver with you and help you understand your current arrangements.

At 7 Days Care WA, we provide personalised NDIS support based on individual goals, preferences and routines.

What About Community Participation?

Community participation remains important for many NDIS participants.

Support may help a participant:

  • Attend community activities
  • Build social connections
  • Develop confidence
  • Learn new skills
  • Participate in hobbies
  • Access local events
  • Work towards greater independence

Because Social, Economic and Community Participation is one of the categories affected by the 2026 budget changes, participants should check their individual plan and funding.

What About Improved Daily Living Skills?

Improved Daily Living Skills is also one of the support categories affected by the changes.

Depending on a participant’s goals and funded supports, this area can involve developing skills around:

  • Cooking
  • Shopping
  • Household routines
  • Community access
  • Communication
  • Organisation
  • Everyday decision-making
  • Building independence

The exact impact depends on each participant’s circumstances and plan.

Can You Ask for a Change to Your NDIS Plan?

Yes. The NDIS says participants can still request a plan change where there has been a significant and ongoing change to circumstances, including changes to daily activities, living arrangements, education or employment circumstances, or available informal supports.

For more information, see the official NDIS Guide to your next plan.

What Is Changing From December 2026?

Another important change is the new 90-day claiming timeframe.

From December 2026, claims must be submitted within 90 days of delivering a support.

The NDIS has also announced that from 15 October 2026, claims submitted more than 90 days after a support is delivered will receive additional integrity checks. Claims within 90 days continue through the usual process.

For NDIS providers, this makes accurate records, invoices and timely claims increasingly important.

What Other NDIS Changes Are Coming?

The NDIS has published a timeline of further changes, including:

  • October 2026: Support budget reductions begin
  • December 2026: 90-day claiming timeframe
  • February 2027: Plan renewal changes
  • July 2027: Expanded mandatory registration requirements for some providers
  • October 2027: Trusted panel of plan management providers
  • January 2028: Changes to access for new applicants begin

These changes are being introduced at different times, so participants and providers should regularly check the official NDIS updates.
